John Chow’s Last Dot Com Pho in Vancouver took place on August, 28, 2010. It was an event that was marked by high attendance and relaxed, cheerful spirit.
Michael Kwan was kind enough to take a video of John Chow and me rubbing shoulders and having a chat.
The video is a good example of how people are interacting during the lunch meetings. You’ll also learn something new about John’s iPad vest pocket and what to watch out for when you have your business cards printed by Print 24.
As is the case almost every week, I was able to meet, exchange business cards and interact with a few new people in addition to getting to know better the people that I’ve met before.
Last Saturday was a very memorable event because John Chow is moving out of Vancouver before the end of August to the Emerald city, Seattle.
John Chow is a prominent A blogger who knows how to make money online, and plenty of it too.
In my post Make Money Online by John Chow Review I have reviewed his first physical book which was published in April, 2010.
Blog Profit Camp is a course by John Chow which recently come out. Blog Profit Camp has since closed out to new students but will reopen in near future. I’m taking the course myself and so far it has been very good.
You don’t need to rush to buy it right now because you may want to read my review of it first.
I won’t be writing the review until I have gone through the whole course personally. I have done the book review the same way, only after reading it.
As pointed out in my post Succeed Online Networking At Internet Marketing Events, attending live events and networking with like minded people who are at different levels in their online business is one of the key activities that will help you succeed and make money online.
It’s been great learning from John Chow because of his experience and business acumen.
But there are also other people who bring a lot to the learning table at Dot Com Pho.
Everybody has something unique to contribute.
Take for example Ed Lau, who is not only very opinionated but has some great skills. One of them is photography. He takes great professional pictures. He can also design logos.
Another person you can learn a great deal from is Michael Kwan. He is a very high quality professional writer who does not only great reviews but can help you with any writing tasks like press releases.
Michael Kwan and Ed Lau
Ariane Colenbrander, Bonnie Sainsbury and Ed Lau
There are plenty of people who go to live internet marketing events who have great skills which you can learn from them.
You can also hire them to do a particular job that you don’t have the skills for and that you don’t have the time or desire to learn.
A particularly skilled person when it comes to You Tube is Josh Rimer. He’s a comedian too and is already getting closer to his goal of being famous online.
There are other remarkable people that I’ve met at small local internet marketing events like the Dot Com Pho. I’ll be mentioning them in my future posts.
John Chow will be missed in Vancouver by all the people who have ever had the honor of meeting him.
He’ll be missed at his Dot Com Pho lunch meetings in Vancouver which will just not be the same without him.
But life will go on and John has promised to visit from time to time, maybe even once a month. We shall see.
If you want to succeed online, I urge you to not just work behind your computer.
Do get out to some live internet marketing events as often as you possibly can and do some vigorous networking.
Please do realize that I’m not just talking about the big internet marketing events and gatherings with hundreds of people in attendance.
Find out if there are any small local events like Dot Com Pho in your area. I’m sure there is something like that going on.
Even if you have to travel to the neighboring city, it will be worth doing every so often.
What to do next?

I hope John does dot com pho in Seattle. A change in location is a good thing to experience. I kind of wish he was moving here in California 😉
I haven’t heard of any Internet events here or anything like dot com pho.
You guys are very fortunate.

Hi d3so,
Thank you for commenting. John will do something in Seattle for sure. He’s friends with the UBD guys, and he’ll start something with them or even on his own.
He may move to California eventually because of the drier and warmer weather but I hope that he’ll come back to Vancouver.
We are very fortunate to have had John here and his Dot Com Pho.
I’m not sure where exactly you are in California but there are great internet marketers living there for sure and they must be meeting somewhere.
I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find any small group. If there really isn’t any you could even start one yourself.

Ya,a change of location to Seatlle would be nice because it is closer to blog world.

Hi Bradley,
I don’t really know what you mean by blog world. There are outstanding bloggers in countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada, for example not to mention the rest of the world. The blog world is everywhere. John has lived most of his live in Canada and he’s an outstanding success.
Let me know what your thoughts are on that.

Ya but it is closer to blog world in Las Vegas. He doesn’t have to fly so far now to blog world in Las Vegas.By the way are you going to the one in Las Vegas.

It’s true that he’s now closer to Las Vegas but not that much closer. Vancouver and Seattle are only separated by about 140 miles which is a matter of minutes when flying. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be going to Blog World in Las Vegas.
Have you ever attended that event?
I never had the opportunity to attend a dot com pho with John, but I’m trying to reorganize my schedule so that I can attend in the future. I did however get a chance to Han out with him in NYC a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for the post Vance.

Hi Earl,
It’s good that you were able to spend some time with John in New York. The Dot Com Pho is a good place to come to and I hope that you’ll make it there sooner or later. John may not be there but if you’re lucky he may just be visiting us.

Hi Aroopam,
I’m glad you visited my blog and commented but in future if you want your comments approved you’ll have to contribute something more than just saying awesome. I know that you frequent John Chow’s blog and your comments there are similar.
Vance
I’m not particularly fussed one way or the other that he’s moving, but I assume he has his reasons for doing so.
I wasn’t able to watch the video this time around because the kids have used all my bandwidth, again, and internet has slowed down to a snail’s pace.
I’ve never had the chance to attend one of those conventions but I reckon it would be interesting to see what one was all about.

Hi Sire,
Thanks for the visit and comment. John has his reasons of course for his move. He’ll be in good position wherever he goes because he makes his income online. I hope that you’ll get to watch the video soon. The Dot Com Pho meetings aren’t convention like. They are just informal lunches where we discuss different topics.
Vance
Haha, that vest is awesome!! I had a little trouble getting the video to stop buffering, or whatever it’s doing, but I’m glad I caught the vest!

Hi Jane,
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The vest is really useful isn’t it? John really enjoys it and I wouldn’t mind having one too.
I like vests for their pockets and you can’t get more and bigger pockets than that.

Hi Vance,
I couldn’t agree with you more about physically networking with some of these online marketers. Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance to attend a seminar or meeting of any kind…but it is definitely on my agenda. You really are fortunate to live in the same city that your event was in.
You have, however, prompted me to look for smaller type meetings that may be taking place locally that I could attend.
There really is nothing like hobnobbing with others who enjoy the same interests as you do and it is the best place to strike up friendships which could then lead to JV’s later on.
I am not a student of John Chow’s, but I must admit that your post has made me a bit curious about this marketer…so, I will be checking him out further.
Thanks Vance…

Hi Kathy,
Thank you for the visit and good comment. I’m glad whenever I meet with other internet marketers and network. I take every opportunity to do so.
Both large, convention type live events and small local ones like the Dot Com Pho are valuable. The problem with the large ones is that they don’t take place often enough in the area where one lives.
I like the small events a lot because they are local, free and one can get to know the participants better.
John Chow is a very helpful marketer and one that replies to fellow marketers andbloggers personally.
I look forward to your next comment.

It was interesting. The only way to succeed in this business after all hurdles with PPC, and Google Engine is getting tougher.I think of basic SEO is the only way to get back on track,Blog comment, press release, article submission , link exchange.I don’t know whether all folks out there ever use fancy software?Does it still works??

Hi Ari,
I’m glad you found it interesting. Basic SEO is of course necessary. And most of the other things you name in order to succeed. I’m not so sure about link exchange but getting links through commenting and having a good content that people will link to is a much better way to obtain links.
I have no idea what you mean by fancy software. Perhaps you can expand on that.
Thanks for the visit and comment. I look forward to your next one.

Hi Vance,
it is great to see the interaction between all those Internet Marketers, and to see that even the “not so famous” guys can meet and greet the absolute stars in the field.
I wish we had more live events here in Australia, I have not heard of one here in Perth yet. But maybe I am just not up to date! Great to see you are advancing so much in your journey. Keep it up!

HI Petra,
I’m so glad to see you visit again an thank you for the comment. Interacting with people like John Chow and indeed any other marketers, famous or not, is refreshing and it promotes creativity and learning in addition to possible cooperation on current and future projects.
It of course is also a lot of fun. I hope that you will find a group of bloggers and internet marketers in your area. Perth is a big city and I’m sure that there are plenty of people who’d like to meet and network.
All the Best and I hope to see you visit and comment soon.
Vance

Hi Tom,
I’m glad you liked the post and video. The video editing was quite interesting and it turned out pretty well. I’m taking the opportunity to network and interact with other marketers and I think it’s the thing to do whenever possible. Interviewing John Chow was one of my goals and I accomplished it on time.
Things are going OK and they’ll go even better moving forward I think. I hope that everything is going well with you. Thanks for the visit and comment.
Cheers,
Vance
I haven’t been following John Chow quite as frequently as in the past. Interesting to see that he is moving to Seattle. Hopefully he will continue with Dot Com Pho events near his near home. That is cool that you were able to attend the last one in Vancouver.

Hi WTR,
John Chow will be having Dot Com Pho events in Seattle and he will still be having about one per month in Vancouver which is a good thing.
But technically he’s now only a visitor in Vancouver.
Thanks for the comment and visit again.

As great advice as John gives, every good, respectable way to make money requires a lot of hard work!
