Did You Care About Google Page Rank?
I was told and read that Google page rank was very important since it was a mark of approval by Google and kind of a mark of trust and mark of any website’s importance. So I cared very much about my Google page rank. The best page rank I ever achieved was 4, which I thought at the time to be a great achievement. For no apparent reason in time it turned into 3 and eventually into 2.
The first time it went down it was devastating to me. I never figured out the reasons for it. At that time I was posting regularly and I had a significant number of engaged readers. When it went down to Google page rank 2 I kind of stopped caring about it that much but it still was on my mind. No matter what the secret algorithm and the way to arrive to the page rank Google used it was always changing and it never made much sense. When Google got rid of the page rank altogether it kind of confirmed what some people were saying for quite some time and what I began to suspect: Google page rank never made any sense, it was never a true reflection of the importance and trustworthiness of any website and therefore it should have never been created or abolished long time ago.
Good riddance then.

Yes you are absolutely right. I completely agree with you. No one knows about Google algorithm and I guess we should not be concerned about it. We should focus what we are doing and how it can help other.
Thanks for this post.

I’ve always been a site builder that never really gave a junk about Page Rank. Guess I was doing o.k. all along not to do so!
Great article, I’ll be sure to pass this around to all of my fellow marketers, associates and website builders (including Market Samurai folks) in an attempt to bury it (PR) for good!

The entire write up of page rank is worth reading but after February 2013, google has not updated the page rank. So I think , google is moving in another direction ie., social seo marketing and slowly eradicating the page rank concept.

Yes no need to care much about PR, the importance of that small green bar has gone. It is an old gizmo of google in determining the search result. I guess Google itself is not giving any precedence to PR.

I don’t care about Google page rank because they are not using themselves and it is no more a ranking factor. Now, I care about quality content + link building, Domain authority and Page authority by Moz. Thanks for writing the post.

Page rank is dead and I do not know why people still take is as a metric. But when Page Rank use to get updated it was really easy to rank on Google Search Engine.

Google pagerank is passe now. There used to be once a time when it was one of the essential criteria to judge a website but nowadays, we have Similar web and Domain authority to judge the website.

Google Page Rank does not matter anymore. I believe that we should write for users and not for search engines. If users are liking our content, search engines will also love and rank us higher.

Thanks for your info, I agree we write is for the reader not to the robot, if readers like long google will appreciate

I Personally feel that Google Page Rank has been dead for Years.
Well anyway, Google takes years to update its PR for Sites.
Metrics of MOZ, ahrefs are becoming a great alternative to the Original Google Page Rank.
Thanks for Sharing it.

Yes, My point is going with Rocky. That a blog should be caring about quality content not think for Page rank or but now building backlinks from good DA site is matter. Thanks for sharing this discussion.

Its better that google page rank is gone. now webmasters can actually concentrate on actual SERPS rather than figuring out how to improve the Page Rank.
