While I’m not counting myself as a full blown guru, my meeting with these guys and getting to know them and what they do and how they do it is certainly helping.

The top blogging guru that was present was John Chow.

This is a continuation of what is now turning out to be my blog posts series on internet marketing live networking. Reading all my posts on this subject would be an excellent idea.

To start with read these two: Internet Marketing Networking, Facebook and Succeed Online by Networking.

As time goes on I write less and less about the obvious virtues of doing live internet marketing networking and more about what actually happens at the ones I’m attending.

Even better than just writing about it is posting some videos from there. In this post you can find and view three of them.

The first one is about John Chow’s friend Michael Kwan who went to the dark side or joined the ranks of the forces of the light, depending on whether you prefer the iPhone or the Android and which of them you think is destined to win the battle of the smart phones.

It is amazing to me that 5 or 6 regular Dot Com Pho attendees are now carrying the Android. They are now in majority.

But not all is lost to the cosmic sounding phone. The iPhone still has its fans and the top gun, John Chow, is not jumping the ship.

John Chow let it be known that he is going to get the iPhone 5 when it becomes available in October.

Are Dot Com Pho lunches all about business and no fun? I’d say the opposite is true. And to prove it I made a video for you of us talking about beer.

It is important to know what one is ingesting and have an idea where it originated and where it’s made. To no one’s surprise things aren’t necessarily made where they originated from anymore.

Thus not all Japanese beer or Czech beer is brewed in those countries.

Where was the Japanese Asahi beer John Chow ordered and drank brewed?

Was it Japan, the Philippines or where?

Internet Marketing Networking at its best just happened at Dot Com Pho in Vancouver’s Happy Pho Restaurant. To market on the net you’ll, more likely than not, need a good camera. Panasonic Lumix GF2 and GF3 were covered by John Chow. The Keys to the City Award privileges mused upon and a lot of fun was had.

Rather than write about the virtues of meeting online people at live events which I have done before several times (read 5 Reasons For Internet Marketing Networking and Meet Fellow Bloggers Live if you haven’t read them yet), I decided to show you and write more about what happens at some of them.

The most recent Dot Com Pho in Vancouver with 10 participants included the famous blogger and internet marketer John Chow.

Asking him questions and opinions and picking his brain is a lot of fun not to mention the value of what one learns.

It’s great to see and actually put your hands on some of the tools of the trade he uses. This time it was the Panasonic Lumix GF2 camera which I held in my hands before. But now we talked about the new Lumix GF3 as well.

It turns out that the GF3 is smaller and won’t have the shoe anymore. Thus it is lighter but otherwise the functionality is the same.

Below is the video of John Chow on Lumix GF2 versus Lumix GF3 which I highly recommend you watch to find out the price of the new model as well as how you can trade in the GF2 camera for a hefty credit towards the new one.

Top internet marketers often receive awards and nice privileges for their achievements. There is one award which very few people know much about and that is Keys To the City Award. While most people seem to have heard about it, they don’t seem to know if it gives any privileges to the recipient.

So Far John Chow has not received keys to any city and it remais to be seen if he ever will.

But what does he know and think about it?

Since we didn’t get a definitive answer from the very interesting conversation with John you can read what I found later just below.

The Keys To The City Award Privileges

The usually oversized and decorative key is given to honor the person who gets it. It’s otherwise completely useless as it doesn’t open any doors.

You don’t get access to anything that you normally don’t have access to without the key. It doesn’t entitle you to a free stay at any hotel, the city hall, the mayors residence or anywhere else.

The award is purely ceremonial and aside from bragging rights, if you should want to use them, doesn’t provide anything tangible.

The Keys to the City Award is a symbolic gift in the form of ornamental or otherwise pretty key presented to people a city wants to give honor to. It is a symbolic and ceremonial gesture (an empty gesture really) of appreciation and welcome.

No privileges are given to the recipient of this award nowadays.

Historically, when cities had walls around them and were heavily guarded and a permission to enter a city was needed, the Keys to the City Award gave significant privileges.

Would you like to be honored by getting a ceremonial key or would you rather be given a key that opens at least one real door?

Facebook is something that I will be coming back to later in this post and even more so in my future posts because it is a great tool for many things including email list building.

You may or may not recall my post 5 Reasons For Internet Marketing Networking I wrote about Internet Marketing Networking and how important it is to be participating in it.

In that post I also pointed out how Google and all the other search engines aren’t yet able to distinguish it from Network Marketing.

Well, there has been no progress on that yet and the confusion is still being perpetuated.

To make it clear again what the difference between the two is I will try to define them very briefly as best as I can.

What is Internet Marketing Networking?

Internet Marketing Networking is an event or activity during which the participants, who all engage in some type of internet marketing, exchange experiences and contact information with one another.

What is Network Marketing?

Network Marketing is a new better sounding name for MLM or Multi Level Marketing.

Without going into the details of how Network Marketing or MLM works, it is clear to most people that it has very little to do with Internet Marketing, at least originally.

Some savvy Multi Level Marketers or Network Marketers like Ann Sieg have in the last 2 or 3 years started doing the marketing of Network Marketing online and called it Internet Network Marketing.

Just because they use the internet to attract leads and new converts into their business, it does’t change the nature of Network Marketing or MLM completely or even significantly.

Their business and income is still primarily tied with the Multi Level scheme and the products of the Multi Level or Network Marketing company.

On the other hand Internet Marketers aren’t tied to any Multi Level Marketing or Network Marketing company, its scheme or products.

Google and the other search engines should be able to distinguish between Internet Marketing Networking and Network Marketing and even Internet Network Marketing.

Please let me know if my definitions above make it clear enough for you.

Part of the reason why I’m revisiting this subject is the fact that for the first time ever, as far as I know, one of the participants at the last Dot Com Pho, Moneca Yardley, happenes to be a Network Marketer.

All the rest of us at the Pho meeting are, however, just Internet Marketers and so the meeting is still about Internet Marketing Networking.

This brings a question to my mind and perhaps yours too about what the proper name would be for a meeting of Network Marketers, those who do their network marketing with the help of the internet.

I think that it would have to be something like Internet Network Marketing Networking or for short INM Networking.

While it seems that everything will eventually get intricately connected with the internet, the difference between Internet Marketing and Network Marketing will always be very significant and fundamental.

I’ll let the video from the last Pho speak for itself about the products Moneca is promoting. They are carried by a company called Amega Global and the two products we were shown were Amega Wand, (we called it Magic Wand or Amega Magic Wand) and AMGenex also called Switch On.

Just to make it clear, I’m just reporting on the event in which I participated spontaneously without any possibility of financial gain.

I do not sell, profit from, neither have I bought any of the products of Amega Global. The Dot Com Pho is an admission free Internet Marketing Networking lunch meeting where each participant buys their own lunch.

We did have a lot of fun and plenty of laughs. At the first part of the video you will find out about the Flip cameras and a discussion about Facebook. I’ll write about Facebook more in my future posts as this is getting long enough.

The Dot Com Pho in Vancouver is a regular weekly meeting where local and visiting bloggers network and keep one another up to date about their blogging lives.

The fact that John Chow came to the first Vancouver Dot Com Pho lunch meeting in 2011 right after attending the  Las Vegas Affiliate Summit West shows clearly how much value he places on networking with other bloggers at live events no matter whether they are small or big.

It’s always refreshing to see how he interacts with other internet marketers no matter of how small, big or non existent their achievements are.

This time we had two new bloggers attend and they were welcomed by everyone and felt comfortable right away.

I learned more from and about John Chow again. He places a very high value on networking with other bloggers and internet marketers.

I knew that already but his coming to Vancouver’s Dot Com Pho straight from the Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas really made a strong impression on me.

That made all of my previous harping on the importance of internet marketing networking and of meeting bloggers live worthwhile.

I also enjoyed meeting the blogging newcomers especially because one of them is an avid badminton player and he’s been blogging about badminton for years.

Badminton is especially good in winter when the tennis courts outside are soaked most of the time. Playing badminton outside is tricky because of the wind at any time of the year, so it is mostly an indoor game anyway.

And I learned more about and from the regulars, especially about Stephen Fung and his video expertise.

This post is the last one in 2010 and although it is meant to be very lighthearted it also has a bit of a serious streak in it and an admonition.

I have written about internet marketing networking before. But this post is very different. The main serious point before we get to the fun part is:

Get Away From Your Computer For A Few Days Each Month

The fun will start almost as soon as you do that. Since not everybody can attend big or even small events where bloggers and internet marketers meet, make it your goal for the soon coming new year to meet at least 2 or 3 internet marketers or bloggers one on one if you can’t meet more of them at once.

You’ll have fun getting out of your habitual environment and thought patterns and you will learn new things.

This is what I did in 2010 in addition to going to bigger events and it was well worth it. I met a cat blogger Oscar in Prague and while there I met SY also known as hospitalera. In the same city I met and interviewed a prominent expat blogger Ricky Yates.

I learned from all of them and enjoyed their company. Below is the video of my conversation with Ricky Yates about his blog with a Google rank of 4.

Before I elaborate further on the 5 reasons why you should meet other internet marketers or IM people live, I want to share with you what I have found out recently about Google and how it can’t serve any relevant results on some subjects.

If you want to learn about how to network with other internet marketers or anything about it whatsoever and enter, for example, internet marketing networking or networking with internet marketers or network with internet marketers in the search box using Google, the Google robot will serve up unrelated results.

It will display things related to MLM which now uses a better sounding name of Network Marketing. The closest result it serves is Internet Network Marketing which is about MLM (network marketing) done through the internet. Nothing even remotely close to what you want to find.

I hope that Google will come up with a way to distinguish Internet Marketing Networking from the newer name for MLM which is Network Marketing. It shouldn’t be so hard for Google to fix the problem.

Now let’s get back to the main subject of this post.

5 Reasons to Network With Internet Marketers Face To Face

1) You’ll Be Inspired

You’ll be inspired by new ideas and success stories that aren’t shared online.

2) You’ll Build Better Relationships

You’ll build better rapport and relationships with other successful internet marketers by rubbing shoulders with them.

Sharing a drink, coffee or tea with a person builds much stronger bond than just communicating with them through email, phone or skype.

Email and skype work well enough after you have met the person and you both know each other that way.

I speak from experience. After meeting John Chow and Lee McIntyre I’ve been enjoying a much closer friendship and direct access to them that would have been impossible previously.

3) You’ll Be Able To Share Resources

You will be able to share tips and resources as well as discuss solutions to problems that are never publicly discussed online.

4) You’ll Get Away From Computer

This one is kind of obvious but a very important point for your health and well-being.

You’ll get away from your computer, which is kind of hard for any motivated internet marketer. Stretching your body for long enough and having fun with other marketers will do you a world of good.

5) You’ll Meet Future JV Partners

You’ll meet people that can very well become your future joint venture partners. I don’t know about anybody who is serious about collaborating with other people whom they’ve never met in person.

It just doesn’t happen.

What to do next?

Internet marketing events are a great place to learn and to meet people at various skill levels. These events are also an incredible opportunity to network. Networking at Canada Marketing Summit during the four days from Thursday to Sunday was one such opportunity.

The chance of Meeting and chatting with people like Lee McIntyre, Maritza Parra, Mark Victor Hansen, Scott Rewick, Austin Walsh, Anthony Morrison, Colin Wiebe, Jeff Mills, Riel Roussopoulos, Jason Bax, Jeff Vacek and 5 other great individuals, in addition to hearing their live presentations, is something that cannot be done over the internet and that any aspiring internet marketer should aim at experiencing.

I wasn’t kidding in Succeed Online By Networking At Internet Marketing Events when I said that I was going to take every opportunity to attend and network at live internet marketing events and write about them on my blog.

Canada Marketing Summit was by far the best event that I’ve attended so far.

I must admit that I knew very little or nothing about most of the speakers prior to the event with the notable exception of Lee McIntyre. Learning that he’d be there was an extra incentive for me to be present.

I will post two more videos of Lee McIntyre telling his story below but before I do that let me tell you that All the speakers that I mentioned above and the 4 presenters I haven’t mentioned yet: Dan Lok, Marias Gudelis, Rick Raddatz and Jennifer Hanczel were all fabulous.

All four days of this live internet marketing event so aptly named Canada Marketing Summit (at least half a dozen of the speakers are Canadians) were jam-packed with great information, outstanding speaking performances and intensive networking and fun.

In addition to great content from speakers like Lee McIntyre which you can see a small sample of on the above videos there was a great time to be had meeting and networking with everyone attending the live event.

It’s important to get out of ones shell and take the initiative first to introduce yourself to as many people as possible. I did a much better job now than at the previous significant and big internet marketing event I attended last January. Having said that, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

By the way I respect and like the big internet marketing events and I also like and respect small local internet marketing meetings like John Chow’s Dot Com Pho. It’s important for you to realize that any live networking with other internet marketers is extremely valuable.

After the first day and the first four speakers and a two hour break there was a networking warm up party free to all participants which provided an additional chance to network and have some fun. You may want to watch the video below which will give you an idea of what the evening was like.

Who is Spandy Andy on the video above? Spandy Andy is a bright young Vancouverite. This is what he says about himself:

After the last speaker of Canada Marketing Summit finished speaking, the networking with the attending internet marketers wasn’t over yet.

People hung around or went to a nearby restaurant or a pub to share their impressions, thoughts and ideas about their next moves and plans.

And after 7 p.m. there was an optional dinner and entertainment party and more networking and fun at the hotel ballroom which many speakers and the internet marketing event attendees took part in.

I got to meet with Lee McIntyre again and we had a chat while drinking beer. I met other people and spent fun time with Jit Uppal and some new and old friends.

Michael Kwan was kind enough to take a video of John Chow and me rubbing shoulders and having a chat.

The video is a good example of how people are interacting during the lunch meetings. You’ll also learn something new about John’s iPad vest pocket and what to watch out for when you have your business cards printed by Print 24.

As is the case almost every week, I was able to meet, exchange business cards and interact with a few new people in addition to getting to know better the people that I’ve met before.

Last Saturday was a very memorable event because John Chow is moving out of Vancouver before the end of August to the Emerald city, Seattle.

John Chow is a prominent A blogger who knows how to make money online, and plenty of it too.

In my post Make Money Online by John Chow Review I have reviewed his first physical book which was published in April, 2010.

Blog Profit Camp is a course by John Chow which recently come out. Blog Profit Camp has since closed out to new students but will reopen in near future. I’m taking the course myself and so far it has been very good.

You don’t need to rush to buy it right now because you may want to read my review of it first.

I won’t be writing the review until I have gone through the whole course personally. I have done the book review the same way, only after reading it.

As pointed out in my post Succeed Online Networking At Internet Marketing Events, attending live events and networking with like minded people who are at different levels in their online business is one of the key activities that will help you succeed and make money online.

It’s been great learning from John Chow because of his experience and business acumen.

But there are also other people who bring a lot to the learning table at Dot Com Pho.

Everybody has something unique to contribute.

Take for example Ed Lau, who is not only very opinionated but has some great skills. One of them is photography. He takes great professional pictures. He can also design logos.

Another person you can learn a great deal from is Michael Kwan. He is a very high quality professional writer who does not only great reviews but can help you with any writing tasks like press releases.

There are plenty of people who go to live internet marketing events who have great skills which you can learn from them.

You can also hire them to do a particular job that you don’t have the skills for and that you don’t have the time or desire to learn.

A particularly skilled person when it comes to You Tube is Josh Rimer. He’s a comedian too and is already getting closer to his goal of being famous online.

There are other remarkable people that I’ve met at small local internet marketing events like the Dot Com Pho. I’ll be mentioning them in my future posts.

John Chow will be missed in Vancouver by all the people who have ever had the honor of meeting him.

He’ll be missed at his Dot Com Pho lunch meetings in Vancouver which will just not be the same without him.

But life will go on and John has promised to visit from time to time, maybe even once a month. We shall see.

If you want to succeed online, I urge you to not just work behind your computer.

Do get out to some live internet marketing events as often as you possibly can and do some vigorous networking.

Please do realize that I’m not just talking about the big internet marketing events and gatherings with hundreds of people in attendance.

Find out if there are any small local events like Dot Com Pho in your area. I’m sure there is something like that going on.

Even if you have to travel to the neighboring city, it will be worth doing every so often.

Internet marketing events are the best opportunities to network with your peers and expert internet marketers.

Another way to network is to comment on other blogs and to use social media.

Commenting is an excellent way to start and build relationships with other people who blog in your field or niche and on related subjects.

Internet Marketing Events, Networking

Networking at live internet marketing events is by far the most effective way to get to know and to get connected to people who are working on their online success as well as those who are hugely successful already and to build relationships with them.

Nothing can replace meeting people face to face, shaking their hands and having a chat eyeball to eyeball. It is by far the best way to get connected.

Having a lunch, dinner or a drink together with another marketer or blogger has a lasting impact and can lead to future cooperation or joint ventures.

It can do more for your business than just about anything else.

The lessons learned from the formal speeches and lectures at internet marketing live events are very good indeed and taking notes from them and reviewing them later can serve you well.

But the impact of meeting with people like Alex Jeffreys, John Chow, Paul Wilson and many others that I’ve had the fortune to meet and rubbing shoulders with them will last forever.

Some of them will become your friends and quite likely joint venture partners.

I’ll never forget my first live internet marketing event and the lasting friendships it brought. I wrote about it in Marketing With Alex Las Vegas Workshop 2010.

I don’t remember much from the workshop lectures anymore (I shall review my notes soon) but I very clearly remember all the people I met there and there are several I became friends with and we keep in touch and help one another.

You can never meet enough people who are involved in internet marketing.

It’s my goal to keep on going to as many events as I possibly can.

Of course the more people you meet the better chance you’ll have to meet others through their network of friends.

Sometimes you can first become aware of outstanding internet marketers like Dr David Klein through your current friends blogs and look to meet them at the earliest opportunity.

I exchanged comments with Dr David Klein on John Chow’s blog and you can bet that I’ll be looking to meet Dr DK at an event as soon as possible.

He is said to be the most connected person on the internet.

It may seem that internet marketing is a lonely affair of a person sitting behind a computer without any direct non virtual involvement with other people.
